Great informative write up! Helped me understand something I was just researching up on myself lately. I love these newsletters and hope you continue doing them! Btwn work and 2 kids I’m so busy a lot of times it’s hard to keep up in a space that moves so quick and these are perfect way to stay updated and make sure I don’t miss something. One of the best things to happen to me over the last year was finding EllioTrades YouTube channel and very grateful for everything the whole team does over there!! Thank you 🙏
Hey Daton, Thanks for the comparison. I was looking into a lot of this recently and great to see a nice write up on it in a clear manner. I have one question that I feel is very unclear and I cannot find. Everyone mentions that Layer 2s benefit from the security of the layer 1s, however, in ZKsyncs own documentation they talk about their protocols and how you can rely on them and not validators. Seems contradictory to what people are saying. Not sure if you are able to explain how this work more clearly than the rest of the industry right now? And how does this change as Ethereum transitions from PoW to PoS. How would that affect the tale of the rollups? Thanks! Jo
Hey JoSmoke! Thanks for the response. An important thing to note is that the validity proof smart contracts for zkSync will still reside on the Ethereum mainnet. This is what will prevent manipulation from bad actors/validators. When it comes to ETH 2.0, I believe that the sheer amount of traffic that Ethereum has will always create a use-case for L2s. Another thing to keep in mind is that rollups are blockchain agnostic. A lot of L1s don't realize that they will need L2s at the current moment. However, as the industry grows, I'm confident that we'll see L2s being integrated into other blockchains.
Hi Daton, I'm really appreciative of you research. I'm currently working for O3 Swap, a cross-chain DeFi protocol and we're looking for advisors as we design our DAO. Would you be interested in helping to advise us?

Thank you for the kind words. It's a pleasure and an honor to be able to provide some value to the community.
Thank you Daton!
